THE ONE THING PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT FEMINISM

As I lie in my bed in my colourful spotted hearts dressing gown with a big cup of coffee, I begin to type about a subject that is deemed to be hard to read for many but is so neccesary in this current society. Generations go by and the word 'feminism' is getting more and more distorted by the media just as much as getting on a mortgage ladder in your 20's is near impossible. How many times have you seen someones face cower at the word 'feminism'?
Everywhere we look there seems to be such a strong force on the perfect body image, how to achieve happiness and self-love. All we want is to be happy isn't it? So why do we let such filtered and distorted images have such a profound effect on us. I believe that we live in a society that just wants to be happy and find our own ambition and self-worth and that doesn't come from what size your jeans are. The notion of happiness does not come from a number on a scale. It's ridiculous to measure your worth based on a number in a little box that you get on in the morning.
Admittedly, the Instagram fitness craze has taken over a majority of my mornings, afternoons, and evenings and makes me feel extremely guilty for sipping upon my coke zero and sugar free, fat free crisps and this is a huge problem for not only society nowadays, but for the young girls growing up to believe that they have to look a certain way or to be a certain weight to be accepted and to be okay. This is wrong on so many levels, how you feel about yourself and in your own skin is so much more important than what you wear or how much you work out. Beauty comes from finding confidence in your own body and skin.
Every weight loss program, every diet, no matter how positively it's packaged, whispers to you that you're not right. You're not good enough. You're unacceptable and you need to be fixed. The truth being the matter is that if somebody comes up to you and tells you you're ugly or overweight, that has nothing to do with who you are. It does not define you.
We fear others opinion on how we look and how they view us so much that we find ourselves publicising every aspect of our health and workout almost for some form of approval. If you feel sexy in those gym leggings you wear those damn gym leggings whether you're eating a chocolate bar when doing so or not. By choosing healthy over skinny you are choosing self-love over self-judgement.
So here's one thing you need to know... There is nothing wrong with you.
