Here at Jade Eaton Photography, we've devised the top five tips advised by local mums in Belfast themselves to help you get the most out of your first holiday with your little one.

Top Five Tips for travelling with a young child

1. Keeping them occupied for the Flight

Unless your little one sleeps the whole flight, it can be quite boring just sitting in one place when you know quite rightly they want to explore the whole plane and meet every person on the flight. If you have an iPad you can download programmes onto I player before the flight such as Peppa Pig. Plenty of Snacks helps too!

2. Hands free

If you've a young one that can't walk by themselves yet a baby carrier will keep your hands free for luggage.

3. Day-Time on Holiday

Make sure your at a hotel with a kiddie pool and get up early to get a sunbed by the kids pool (makes life easier when watching them)!

4. Remember it's YOUR Holiday

Your child's crying or upset? You're feeling stressed because they won't settle? Relax and just don’t worry what other people think! It's your holiday NOT theirs.

5. Comfort

Bring comforters or blankets that will help them sleep. If your toddler thinks they’re too old for naps, bring some films or books from home and enjoy some calm, down-time together.

I have extensive travel knowledge and have been travelling with my son on my own for the last 2 years and conquered long and short haul and back packing. We have back packed south east Asia, Europe, visited Miami and Orlando, helicopter rides, spending the day with elephants, uncontrollable laughter and moves to rock any dance floor but most of all we have battled through the lows to which now we are in our forever home and can start our new magic chapter. I never planned to be a mum but I’m so thankful up there took control and gave me him, even if I thought I wasn’t ready at first, I’ve come to realise I couldn’t have been more ready if I tried.
